Dealing with psychological impotence may interfere with sexual activities. The main concern is to find the reason first before attempting to determine a treatment. Often times the occurrence may be due to overexertion or stress. If you are under more stress at work or home than usual it could lead to temporary sexual dysfunctions.

Anxiety and depression could also interfere with the ability to perform sexual activities. Both have different underlying factors, however, an individual could present symptoms from both diagnoses. Performance anxiety is very common among many men and may possibly be related to a number of causes.

If anxiety occurs prior to or during sexual activity, the use of relaxation breathing could be beneficial. These techniques are simple to learn and utilize. If the situation occurs frequently and concerns you it is important to discuss this with a physician or mental health counselor, both of which could provide valuable information.

Depression might be a temporary symptom related to a situation at work or home, or it may possibly be a long term diagnosis. In either case erectile dysfunction could occur due to the symptoms of depression which may produce a decrease in testosterone. If you have been prescribed medications for depression, many prescriptions have this as a side effect and you should contact your physician with concerns.

Guilt will often play a part in the inability to perform sexual. There are many reasons for an individual to experience feelings of guilt such as infidelity or possible questions regarding their sexual identity. In either situation if there are concerns speak to a counselor or other professional that could assist with the problem.

A vast majority of individuals are under the misconception that drugs or alcohol will enhance sexual activity. The truth is either substance could inhibit activity. They reduce the flow of blood to the penis resulting in erection difficulties.

There is a diagnosis known as post traumatic stress disorder that could cause situations of inability to sexually perform. This is a serious diagnosis and is the result of a traumatic event that has occurred in the individuals life. Often times victims of rape will experience this diagnosis. Those individuals that may be suffering with this diagnosis should seek medical attention.

Should this be an occasional or temporary problem there are over the counter substances that are natural and made from herbs that could be beneficial. These do not produce any side effects. When psychological impotence becomes a concern, it is best to contact a physician to determine if the problem could be related to a serious medical issue. If you are currently taking prescription medications, it is necessary to know that many of these can cause an inability to have an erection. Before taking any medications either over the counter or prescription it is important to discuss them with your family doctor to ensure the medications will not interfere with the substance you are considering.
